About Us
The Optimist Club of Ankeny offers a variety of activities to enhance experience and exposure to opportunities that youth may not have. The activities provided at no charge encourage family time, outdoor enjoyment and skills, scholarships, fun, and community beautification. Here are some of our activities and events:
– Fishing derbies in summer and winter
– Halloween mini-golf
– Spin art at the All Ankeny Play Day, Kid’s Fest, and Engage Ankeny
– Youth Essay and Oratorical contests
– Annual recognition of a local police officer with a Respect for Law
award and dinner,
– Sponsor a family’s Thanksgiving dinner
– Adopt a family for Christmas
– Provide Buddy Benches to elementary schools
– Family Chalk Art Contest
– Avenue of Flags
– Sunrise Park Flower Garden
– Financial support to the local youth organizations, scholarships, the
Optimist International (OI) Iowa Junior Golf Tournament, the OI
Foundation, and OI Childhood Wellness Campaign.
